What is labiaplasty?

Changes in your face and body are easy to recognize, but vaginal changes may go unnoticed. In vaginal tissues, pregnancy and aging reduce the amount of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, causing a variety of symptoms that interfere with a woman’s quality of life.

Ridgewood Plastic Surgery offers high-quality feminine rejuvenation procedures to restore a firmer tone and/or a more youthful, symmetrical appearance to female genital tissues. Female rejuvenation is done for cosmetic reasons as well as for improving comfort and treating problems caused by vaginal tissue laxity, such as painful urination and stress urinary incontinence.

There are both surgical and non-surgical techniques used in labiaplasty. In non-surgical techniques, collagen production is stimulated by energy-based systems. In addition to thickening the tissues, this helps with concerns such as dryness, incontinence, and urinary incontinence. Depending on the nature of the procedure, liposuction can be performed with or without surgery. A labia reduction procedure reduces chafing and irritation by removing small amounts of tissue from the labia, while also improving the labia’s appearance.

There are other options for vaginal rejuvenation surgery

Cosmetic surgeons are also capable of performing other specialized vaginal rejuvenation procedures besides labiaplasty:

Vaginoplasty: surgically tightens vaginal muscles that are loose or stretched. These results can last for a long time; they are best suited for women who do not plan to have more children

Clitoral hood reduction: Reduction of excess tissue over the clitoris for improvement of sexual experience and/or relief of discomfort.

Mons pubis reduction: a procedure that removes excess fat and skin from the mons pubis to restore a more streamlined look to the pelvic region.

An intravenous (IV) sedative or local anesthesia is typically used for labiaplasty. It usually takes one to two hours to complete the procedure. Swelling and discomfort may occur after the procedure, but these symptoms should subside within a few days or a week. While on the road to recovery, patients should refrain from sexual activity and strenuous activity for a few weeks.

Labiaplasty produces long-lasting results. While labial tissues may begin to sag again with normal aging, this is usually mild compared to what would have happened without surgery.
