What is a breast lift?

A breast lift, also called a mastopexy, is a surgical procedure used to lift and reshape sagging breasts. The procedure is designed to improve the appearance of the breasts by removing excess skin, tightening the surrounding tissue, and repositioning the nipples and areolas to a more youthful position. Women of any age can undergo a breast lift, but most commonly it is performed on women who have experienced changes in their breasts due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, aging, or significant weight loss. You can perform this procedure alone or in conjunction with other breast surgery procedures such as augmentation or reduction.

IF I WANT A BREAST LIFT, SHOULD COST BE MY DETERMINING FACTOR?

We have met with many women who chose to have their breast lift procedures performed outside the United States because the cost was lower. Unfortunately, they encountered unexpected complications. It is not common for plastic surgeons in other countries to follow the same safety regulations and standards of care as in the U.S. The cost-effective option may turn out to be the beginning of a lengthy journey of revision surgeries, breast tissue damage, and undesirable outcomes. It is common for women who have breast lifts performed outside of the country to be less satisfied with the result than they were before.

Ridgewood Plastic Surgery understands that cost is a consideration, but women are better off making informed decisions about their mastopexy procedures when they consider the experience of the surgeon, the safety of the facility, access to emergency care, the aftercare program, and access to the surgeon for follow-up appointments. To ensure that your investment in a breast lift delivers the desired outcomes, your plastic surgeon should be with you throughout the process.
