What is earlobe repair?
Earlobe repair is a procedure that corrects damaged earlobes, such as those that have been ripped, scarred, or stretched due to wearing heavy earrings or gauges. Here’s a general overview of how an earlobe repair is done:
- Anesthesia: A local anesthetic is injected into the earlobe to numb the area.
- Incisions: The physician makes incisions to remove stretched tissue and/or cut the skin around a tear.
- Removal of Excess Skin: The excess skin is removed.
- Tissue Rotation: Depending on the individual issue, tissue may be rotated.
- Closure: The wound is then closed in layers to take tension off the outer part of the incision.
- Stitching: Finally, the earlobe is repaired with stitches.
The procedure is typically done as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia, and most patients can drive themselves home. Recovery is usually quick, and patients often return to work the next day. It’s recommended to wait at least three months before re-piercing the ear
