What is a neck lift?

A neck lift, also known as a lower rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that is performed to improve the appearance of the neck and lower face. It is often used to correct sagging or loose skin in the neck area, as well as to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. In addition to a neck lift, your plastic surgeon may recommend combining it with other procedures such as a facelift, browlift, or eyelid surgery to achieve maximum anti-aging results.

The specific technique used during a neck lift will depend on the individual’s specific needs and goals. Some common techniques used in neck lifts include:

Liposuction: This involves using a hollow stainless steel tube, or cannula, to suction excess fat from the neck and jawline.

Platysmaplasty: This involves making an incision under the chin and tightening the muscles in the neck to improve the contour and reduce sagging.

Skin excision: This involves making an incision under the chin or behind the ears and removing excess skin to tighten and smooth the neck.

Recovery from a neck lift usually involves some swelling, bruising, and discomfort, which can be managed with pain medication and cold compresses. Most people are able to return to work or other normal activities within a week or two after the procedure. However, more strenuous activities should be avoided for a longer period of time.
